Spring migration a boon for state tourism industry
Minnesota: ěWhere the Wild Things Areî field trip is rescheduled to April 17 to give participants from the tourism industry a chance to view the spring migration.
This field trip is designed for resort owners, chambers of commerce, the hospitality industry and businesses that are interested in attracting wildlife tourism customers and learning more about wildlife watching opportunities. Wildlife tourism attracts about 650,000 people to Minnesota each year spending $380 million annually.
The ěWhere the Wild Things areî field trip will begin at 8:45 a.m. April 17 at the Northland Arboretum in Brainerd with a preview of the Arboretum before traveling to Garrison to view migrating waterfowl and birds on Mille Lacs Lake. Participants will then view rice paddies north of Aitkin, where tundra swans and waterfowl abound. The Central Minnesota field trip is called ěWaterfowl on the Wing and Swimming Swans.î
All field trips include deluxe motorcoach transportation, professional wildlife guides, and lunch. Binoculars and wildlife field guides are suggested. Some walking may be involved, so wear comfortable shoes or boots. Since we will be outside part of the time, dress appropriately for the weather. The cost of the field trip is $15.
