Celebrate Vikings Basketball Week
Mayor John Pinsonneault and the city of North Branch have declared this week ìNorth Branch Vikings Basketball Weekî in the city.
The official city proclamation was read by Mayor Pinsonneault at the North Branch School Board meeting Thursday night, April 19. Vikings hoops week, officially, is recognized April 22 through the 28th.
The proclamation was made in the wake of two whirlwind seasons of success for the Viking boys and girls cage squads, and head coaches Bill Baumann and Dan Schindler, respectively.
Both teams earned themselves the Rum River Conference Championship as well as the Section 6AAA Championship trophies this season. The girls team advanced to the state tournament finals before returning to North Branch with the state runners-up trophy. The boys team had their season cut short of their goals with a first round loss to Rocori in the state tournament.
ìWe salute the hours of hard work, effort and perseverance that became the foundation of your success,î the proclamation reads. ìThe success of our teams have brought pride and joy to our community, and your performance on and off the court has provided an excellent example of what a student athlete is.î
Indeed: also recognized by the mayor this week were academic athletes Maggie Lofboom, Missy Kosky, Brad Baumann and Jeremy Miller for their impressive performance both on the court and in the classroom.
The city offered its praise to the fans of the teams, too, for the support and following by hundreds of them in addition to the proud parents of the players.
