Please support cheerleading in our schools

To the editor:

What would it be like to live in a day in the life of a North Branch cheerleader that wasnít there? What would it be like going to a football game or a basketball game and all the elements were there, the players, the coaches, the pep band, the fans, they were all there except the cheerleading squad? What would it be like to walk down Main Street North Branch on homecoming week and there were no painted windows letting the football team know we wereİbehind them and that we hope they win the big game? What would it be like to go to State tournaments and when they want to introduce the North Branch cheerleaders, there arenít any?

This could very well be the case! It is in consideration that the school board be asked to eliminate winter cheerleading (girls and boys basketball and wrestling) possibly as soon as April 19, the next scheduled school board meeting.İSupporting school activities turns into a plus for our community and for the students within those activities. I am a big supporter of student activities and would like to see the North Branch cheerleading squad stay for both fall and winter seasons.

What would it be like in a day in the life of a North Branch cheerleader who wasn't there?İWe would lose our school and community spirit and we would just plain lose with our children. What is wrong with letting these kids do what they like toİdo, instead of cutting it away? Donít statistics tell us that activities are one of the key elements for helping us keep our children on track?

Please let the school board know by April 19 that you would like to keep the activity of winter cheerleading (and cheerleading as a whole) in our school.İPlease help support our North Branch High School cheerleaders. Thank you.
