Developerís agreement adopted as safeguard for city

By Danielle Strenke

The Harris City Council reviewed, and subsequently approved, a developerís agreement at its regular meeting Monday, Aug. 6.

The agreement will be used as a safeguard to protect the city should the need arise.

Developers of any larger proposed developments will be required to enter the agreement with the city, which will hold the developer responsible for completing any necessary road, sewer, and water system improvements that would be needed for the development.
The owner will also be responsible for submitting plans, specifications, and contractorsí names involved in the developments. The city engineer will be authorized to make final inspection of any improvements made to city roads, and systems.

Budget meetings set

At the meeting, the council also set two budget meetings to discuss the 2002 budget. The first will come immediately following the regular council meeting Monday, Aug. 20; the second meeting will be Wednesday, Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. Final approval of the cityís budget will be made by the council in September.
Last year, the council approved a budget increase of slightly over nine percent for 2001.

Other business

Mayor Richard Hanson and the council will begin interviews next week for the city treasurer position. There are seven qualified candidates who will be interviewed.

City Hall will be the site of a free food distribution Sept. 28-29. A mission committee from a Rush City church will be distributing a truckload of food to anyone who needs it.

The food was bought through donations from the Rush City Lions, Lutheran Brotherhood, AAL, and a grant through YAR (Youth As Resources).

Hours for the drive will be

7-9 p.m. Friday, and 8 a.m. until gone on Saturday.
The council approved the purchase of Archview, the base software for the cityís new GPS system. Last Friday, both Mayor Richard Hanson and clerk Kim Hugger were on hand as the new systems were installed at city hall by the firm Community GIS.

In conjunction with the park boardís proposed budget for next year, the council discussed constructing a sign that would inform residents of upcoming community and area events, similar to a sign outside of the city hall in Stacy.

The park board also recommended the purchase of flags and poles for display on Forest Blvd. during national holidays, and new play equipment and trees at School House Park.
