On the issue of name-calling

To the editor:

In a recent issue of the ėPost Review,î Sen. Twyla Ring implied that both Rep. Rob Eastlund and myself are ėname-callers.î My definition of a name-caller is one who uses vulgar, crude, rude or indecent language to describe someone. Neither Rob nor I have used such language. It would be more correct to call the phrases that I used in my previous letter, such as ėSen. Backpedal,î or ėSen. Gamesmanship,î in referring to Sen. Moe, as ėlabeling.î or ėdefiningî rather than ėname-calling.î
I really do my best to not be involved with ėname-calling.î With all of that said, I still stand behind my description ėlabelingî of Senator Moe as being accurate. I will also stand behind the facts that I stated in my preceding letter.
It also seems to me that if I were indeed ėname-callingî with my rhetoric, Senator Moe would be equally guilty since it was he who ėlabeledî Rep. Steve Sviggum as ėShut-down Steve.î Also since Sen. Ring was so disappointed in the Republican Party for using ėlabeling,î she must be extremely disappointed in Sen. Moe for then doing the very same thing.
The intent in my previous letter was to put a spotlight on the leadership of the Senate Democrats and to show how far out of step on the issues they are with their constituencies. I had not even made mention of Sen. Ring in my last letter, however it seems that by Sen. Ringís vehement defense of her colleague, Sen. Moe in her last column, she too may be out of step with the majority of her constituents.
One final thought. If in this last legislative session, we would have elected a Democratic House, a Democratic Senate, and Democrat, Skip Humphrey as our Governor, do you really think in your ėMind of Mindsî that we ever would of received a State Tax refund? Or if, for that matter, we had elected Al Gore as our President, instead of George W. Bush, do you really think that we would have ever received a Federal Tax refund. Dream on.
