We care, but our hands are tied
To the editor:
The people of North Branch do care, but our hands are tied.
I would like to comment on the commentary ìAww, who cares?î The people of North Branch do care about our children. We also care that we can afford to continue to live in North Branch. We have voted for a new fire hall. That will raise our taxes. The cost of fuel and gas has gone up both for cars and homes. The cityís taxes will go up this year.
Many have requested the previous city council to slow down growth. Finally they did before election time back in August. And that was only for one year outside of the water and sewer area.
We complained that our infrastructure was overburdened. Traffic, as well as schools. We were told there were no problems. After the elections we hear that we need a new school and that the school board would like to possibly buy 40 acres of land and to sell it at some time later.
If the city of North Branch continues to grow at the present rate, more and more children will come into this area. Thatís not counting the children from the other towns around us. The residents are telling the school board that we canít afford more taxes, and we will continue to vote NO. We are not saying we donít care about our kids, we are saying that we need to slow down growth.
You either have to slow down the growth or the school will have to bite the bullet.
