Posted 2/22/01 Quality Collection Services, Inc. moves to North Branch A 14-year veteran in his field, Michael Cleveland, owner of Quality Collection Services, Inc. has moved into North Branch locating his business in the new Central Park Office Building near Petersonís Farm and Garden Store north of Central Park. Clevelandís collection agency specializes in the recovery of bad debts. ìI have made hundreds of thousands of calls as a collector in the earlier 1990s and was very successful and awarded all the perks that come with being a top producer at a top agency,î he said. ìAfter having earned my way through the ranks I became a collections supervisor of, again, one of the largest collection agencies in the country, creating a team and planning a strategy as to how we could become the number one agency in the country.î Cleveland has worked with all the major banks from Chase Manhattan, Wachovia, Chevy Chase, First Bank, AT&T, Nations Bank, First Card, etc. Around 1994, Cleveland left his supervisory role and went to work as a collections manager for two years at a smaller agency working primarily with credit unions. His duties included hiring employees and overseeing production and he was involved with the legal department and skiptracing departments as well. ìThat was a great opportunity. I took a small agency that was experiencing growing pains and helped it smash its expectations in terms of record dollars recovered,î Cleveland said. ìI brought in some great experience when prior co-workers followed me to the new agency. I was responsible for over 400 credit unions from Minnesota, Texas, Iowa, Illinois and many more.î Cleveland started his own business ñ Quality Collection Services, Inc. ñ in 1998. Clients range from credit unions in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Kansas to different types of commercial accounts, from restaurants to contractors. ìWe currently service hundreds of clients and have recovered a lot of what was thought to be ëlost dollars.í Many clients are in the Chisago County area.î Quality Collections handles charge off accounts, worthless checks, commercial accounts, medical providers and judgement accounts, plus repossessions and sales of collateral. ìThere is never a dull moment,î said Cleveland as he began to adjust to his new office Monday morning, ìItís not the most popular subject with people and after 14 years in the business I still feel funny when asked ëwhat do I do for a livingí.î Cleveland said his success comes from not running a typical collection agency. ìWe do not intimidate people, rather we try to motivate them to pay. Most people are good people and want to pay, they just are scared and donít know what to do. That is where our empathetic counselors come in.î Cleveland and his wife and three children have lived in Chisago County are for almost seven years. ìWe have made a lot of friends along the way.
