Army Spec. MATTHEW WISS has graduated from basic military training at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, MO. He is the son of Carole Wiss of Harris and Thomas Wiss of North Branch.

Area students were among the North Dakota State University, Fargo, students to be placed on the Fall 2000 Deanís List. They are:

JAMIE TOMLIN, Forest Lake, Pre-Elementary Education.
JUSTIN STRIKE, Harris, Mechanical Engineering.

And three area students graduated from North Dakota State University in December of 2000:

HOLLY PETERSEN, North Branch, received her B.A. in human
services from Metropolitan State University during Metro Stateís 67th commencement ceremony Dec. 19, 2000 in the Grand Ballroom of RiverCentreís Touchstone Energy Place in St. Paul.

Army Pvt. ALAN THOMSEN has graduated from basic military training at Fort Sill, Lawton, OK. Thomsen is the son of Angela Thomsen of Rush City and Terry Thomsen of North Branch.

SUE KNEEN, of North Branch, has been named to the Deanís List for the fall trimester of Augsburg Weekend College in Minneapolis.

Dean Phillip Certain has announced Deanís List honors for full-time students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Jennifer Alvin of Harris, in th College of Letters and Science, was recognized for scholastic performance during this past fall semester.

Students taking at three courses are recognized for achieving a grand point average of at least a 3.667 on a four-point scale. The following two students earned a place on the fall semester deanís list for the 2000-20001 academic year at the College of St. Catherine, St. Paul:
LYNN SWANSON, of Stacy, Swanson is a weekend college student majoring in elementary education. She is the daughter of Dave and Joyce Potter and is married to Bill Swanson.
ANDREA LAVALLE, Roseville, daughter of Thomas and Mary LaValle of Stacy. She is a sophomore majoring in pre-nursing. LaValle is a 1999 graduate of North Branch High School.

The Anoka-Hennepin Technical College Foundation has awarded 70 scholarships to students attending the college during the current spring semester. Local recipants and their courses of study are:
RYAN DAVIS, North Branch, welding.
JUSTIN JAHNZ, Pine City, Construction Electrician.
MARY HENNESSY, Isanti, Information Technology.
DAVID NYQUIST, North Branch, Practical Nursing.
MAI VANG, Isanti, Medical Assistant.

MICHELLE MUELLER, Stacy, is a junior, majoring in Management: General Management & Tech at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and was named to the Deanís list for the first semester of the 2000-2001 academic year.
