County PC voted against zoning amendment
To the editor:
The Chisago County Planning Commission has voted against a proposed amendment to the countyís zoning ordinance which would permit for 15,000 sq. (feet) for commercial storage rental pole buildings on 40 acre parcels throughout the countyís agricultural district.
The only vote for the amendment came from the proposerís brother-in-law. The planning commission acted responsibly and is to be commended for their action.
The fate of this amendment now lies in the hands of the Chisago County Board of Commissioners which will meet to decide the issue on Jan. 17, 2001 at 6:30 p.m. at the courthouse in Center City.
Despite the radical impacts to 85 percent of the county, expected to result under the terms of the amendment, it cannot be assumed that the merits of the facts will prevent its passage.
No one expected last month that the board would permanently install 99 trailers homes on undeveloped Sunrise Lake until that districtís commissioner suddenly refused to speak or vote on it, citing a political ìconflict of interest.î
Another political conflict of interest confronts this same commissioner again and a similarly engineered approval may be pending.
I urge citizens and city and township representatives to write to the Chisago County Board of Commissioners at 313 North Main Street, Center City, MN 55012 and to attend the Jan. 17 meeting to voice concern over the dispersal of visual blight, urban sprawl, pollution hazards and township roads and policing costs which will result should the amendment be approved.
