Snow White is coming soon!
The forecast for February is looking great. Snow (White) is coming soon! The last two weekends of the month will mark the arrival of North Branch Area Community Theatreís (NBACT) winter production, of ìSnow White and the Seven Dwarfs,î an adaptation of the Brotherís Grimm Fairy Tale.
The production will be high in the entertainment listing and low in the pocketbook. There will be cool costumes, heart-warming scenes and a windy tale from long, long ago.
The NBACT predicts talking snowflakes, dancing frost fairies, an enchanted forest, a magical mirror, a wicked witch and, of course, a beautiful princess who lives happily ever after with the handsome prince.
Come and see ìweatherî this ìSnowî isnít just what you need on a cold winterís night.
HThe play will star Nicole Swanson, a sophomore at North Branch High School, as Snow White, with nine-year-old Hannah Franzmeier playing the young child Snow White in flashback scenes.
HDoug Karsky and Janelle Jakubowski will portray the royal parents, King and Queen Goodheart. Dougís last appearance in community theatre was as Herrod in ìJesus Christ Superstar.î
Jakubowski is new to the NBACT stage, but often performs in a music and drama team for her church.
HSherry Pearce, who delighted area audiences as one of the Sisters in ìNunsense,î will bring her considerable dramatic abilities back to the stage as the wicked queen, Enviana, who becomes Snow Whiteís step-mother.
HEnvianaís wicked-witch personality is acted out by Roxanne Copeland.
Familiar local actors have been cast as those seven height-challenged fellas who rescue Snow White after her near-disastrous encounter with the wicked queenís axmen.
HKathy Cole, Susan Deluney, Dwight Johnson, Paul Moore, Skip Solle and Joanna Swanson all bring unique style and characteristics to their roles as the seven dwarfs. One other dwarf is yet to be cast, following a cancellation due to a scheduling conflict.
Although not a musical, this production is brightened by a few songs, one being the happy-ever after-ending duet between Snow White and her charming Prince Gallant.
HFletcher Halle, as the Prince, and Princess Snow White, Swanson, put their excellent musical training to use for a wonderfully happy note to end the play.
The play is being directed by Jody Farago who has a long history of participation with NBACT, some as director or set designer. More recently, Farago had a starring role as Oliver Warbuckís secretary in ìAnnie.î Farago, who has a theater arts degree in set design from Hamline University, has been on stage or back stage for nearly every production since ìOliverî in 1995. Show producer Dan DeWan credits the success of many NBACT shows in part to her creativity and artistic talent.
Performances of ìSnow White and the Seven Dwarfsî will be held at the North Branch High School auditorium Feb. 16-17 and 23-24 at 7 p.m.
Sunday shows on Feb. 18 and 25 are at 2 p.m.
Reserve seating tickets can be purchased in advance for $7 at Nelsonís Market beginning in February. Tickets will be sold at the NBHS auditorium prior to each performance for $8.
