2001 and beyond: Opinion from Brian Meskimen
By Brian Meskimen
Well, here we are in a new year and (technically) a new millennium. ÝWith a new millennium comes a lot of new possibilities, ideas, and technologies. Each year that passes by we continue to discover new things, rule out old theories, and sometimes we even fall behind in some areas.
In the future many things will become possible, ranging from improved medical treatment to transportation, and more. We will be able to treat and cure more diseases than ever before, diseases like "cancer" and "AIDS" will become a thing of the past. We will soon have faster and safer transportation, a trip from Los Angeles to New York may be comparable to traveling to the Twin Cities from North Branch now. Everything will become more affordable, safer, and better for the environment.
In order to accomplish all of these things and more, we will have to come together as a nation and as a planet to work together for our common good. If we all forget our petty differences and come to realize that inside we are all the same, we will go places.
However, if we continue to fight with our neighbors, whether they are a bordering country or the guy next door, it will just slow us down even more. Someone once said, ìThe future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.î
