North Branch Area Food Shelf gains 125 lbs.with help from Anderson Chiropractic clients

The North Branch Area Food Shelf got a nice shot in the arm last week in the form of a 125 lb. food donation from the clients of a local chiropractic office.

Food Shelf Coordinator Ione Jordan and shelf volunteer Bertie Gruber were on hand last Wednesday, Jan. 3 to accept the donation from Shelly Anderson, who coordinated the collection.

Anderson, a Certified Massage Therapist (CMT) at Anderson Chiropractic in North Branch, organized the food drive in October. Chiropractic clients were offered an entry to a drawing for a free, hour-long massage with each food donation they made during their office visits from October through December.

Shelly said the food drive was an excellent way for the chiropractic center and its clients to extend a helping hand to members of the community who are in need of such assistance this winter.

ìAnything we could do to help out,î she said of those who contributed to the drive. ìItís a community outreach opportunity.î
Volunteers Jordan and Gruber were busy dispersing non-perishables and stocking the shelf with the new supplies when the items were delivered Wednesday morning.

ìThis really helps us out,î Gruber said of the large donation... not to mention those who rely on the shelfís unique brand of assistance from week to week.

The two volunteers pack up boxes with three daysí worth of good nutrition per person per family for those who visit the shelf, located in the basement of the ì612 Buildingî on Main Street, downtown North Branch. Each box offers diverse coverage across the food groups and provides for each member of a family in need.
Ione wished to offer her personal thanks to all the churches, schools, businesses and people of the North Branch area who remembered their community food shelf during the recent holiday season and into the new year.
