Breast Cancer Quilt raised awareness of womenís cancer issues
Chisago County Public Health Department received grant funding last year to educate women and promote awareness of breast and cervical cancer prevention.
Some of the funds were used to purchase materials to have a quilt made in efforts to help raise awareness of womenís cancer issues.
Volunteers from Country Loft Quilt & Design in Stacy hand pieced and machine quilted the quilt.
The Public Health Department displayed the quilt at several sites around Chisago County where information was provided to women about eh importance of monthly breast self-exams and annual mammograms.
Women are encouraged to perform monthly breast self-exams, have an annual clinical exam by a health profession and an annual mammogram to aid in early detection of breast cancer.
Free mammograms are available through the Minnesota Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program for women age 40 and older who have little of no health insurance. Contact your physician or Chisago County Public Health Department at 651-213-0301 or 651-674-4433 ext. 301 for more information about this program or if you have questions regarding health screenings.
