Friendly and considerate citizens a hallmark of NB
To the editor:
One of the reasons weíve embraced living in North Branch is the friendly and considerate citizens that inhabit our community. On Tuesday morning, Jan 9, we let our one and a half-year-old yellow lab, Brandi, out for her morning stretch. Like many families our pet is a very close member of our family. Normally sheís back in about five minutes, this time she wasnít.
My wife called and called but Brandi didnít come. I was already 50 miles from home; so my wife drove around and around searching the area to no avail. She was becoming very late for work and decided to call Dave and Barb Burrington. Without hesitation, they volunteered to look for our pet. After several hours of searching, they found her in the field between Tanger Mall and Co. Rd. 68. She was shaking, bleeding profusely and unresponsive. Dave and Barb took her to a veterinary hospital for emergency care. We surmised that she had wandered to the edge of our property and was hit by a snowmobile.
Confused and scared she wandered away from home. When she couldnít walk any more, she laid down in the field. Her front legs were badly injured, one was broken, and her left side had a four-inch laceration that required stitches. If she had not been found, she would have either bled to death or died from exposure. Brandi was wearing a collar with identification. If the snowmobile rider had made a small effort Brandi would not have had to suffer near as long. Our children praised Dave and Barb Burrington to all their friends at school.
We feel that the Burringtons are what is right about North Branch. They symbolize the character of a caring community. We know there are many other people here who will agree with us.
Thank you for helping our beloved pet. Sincerely,
The Schewe family
