Harris author is finalist for 13th Annual Minnesota Book Award
Charlotte Wilcox of Harris has been selected as a finalist in the 13th Annual Minnesota Book Awards competition with her book titled, Mummies, Bones and Body Parts, Lerner Publishing Group.
Wilcox said Mummies, Bones and Body Parts is a sequel to her 1993 book, Mummies and Their Mysteries, which was an overview of mummies around the world.
The books are written for 4th-6th-grade students, but are also used by older students, she said.
Mummies, Bones and Body Parts relates how and why scientists study remains and the controversies surrounding human remains.
The Minnesota Center for the Book selection committee chose her book, along with 44 other entries, from among the more than 250 books submitted in response to a statewide call for entries.
To be eligible for nomination, entries needed a copyright date of 2000 and the primary creator of the work (author, illustrator or editor) had to be a Minnesota resident or a former Minnesota resident thought of as a Minnesotan.
During the final nomination process Jan. 13, a panel of 48 volunteers from Minnesotaís literary community deliberated and panelists evaluated each entry based upon the bookís literary merit, originality and broad appeal.
Winners in each of the 10 categories will be named at the Minnesota Book Awards ceremony April 20 at the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul. The program will air live on Twin Cities Public Television at 8 p.m.
