Happy New Year, happy new furniture: Sunday Night by MaryHelen Swanson
Nothing philosophical this week. Just best wishes for a prosperous and happy new year, the start, they say, of the real new millennium.
Having complained soundly for months about my old furniture, to start my year I purchased new furniture. The day-long fiasco is a tale to behold. After traveling to three different furniture stores, coming close to purchasing this fantastic furniture twice, once in blue and once in green, I was saddened to learn that I would have to wait several weeks for delivery. Determined to have new furniture for the new year we moved on.
Further search last Saturday resulted in finding the same furniture at another store, well at least part of it. The sofa was available, but the love seat was damaged. A call to their partner store found the love seat there in perfect condition. The hour was getting late, the snow was falling, and we needed to rent a trailer to haul it home. We were determined not to see the new year in, in the old ragged furniture. A dash to Cambridge to find a trailer for rent. Found. Load sofa at one store, love seat at another. Still snowing.
Get this perfect furniture home and . . .WOW. . . it wouldnít fit through our doors. It was cold, snowing and we were exhausted. What to do?
Take the door off. So we did and I have my new yearís furniture in place. And my favorite old comfy chair, the one I complained about so long? Itís in my sunroom, because, like an old friend. I canít part with it.
