By MaryHelen Swanson
Norton ìfluffî Johnson, a familiar face to many in the North Branch area, has been selected to lead the Midsummer Parade on Sunday, June 17 at 2 p.m.
The parade is one of the final activities of this five-day celebration which starts with a concert by the St. Croix Valley Orchestra, tonight, 7 p.m. at the high school, and includes a Family Barbecue, 5-7:30 p.m. Thursday night, sponsored by the North Branch Chamber and a Kiddie Parade that same evening at 6:30 p.m.
The first clue for the medallion hunt comes out Thursday.
Who will find it and win the money?
On Friday, June 15 the new Midsummer royalty is crowned under the big tent in the Legion parking lot.
Saturday is full of activities including Kiddie Olympics at 9 a.m. at the high school athletic field, Kiddie Pedal Tractor Pull at 1 p.m. at the Municipal parking lot, Olde World Market for a unique shopping experience and a Classic Car Show at Tanger Outlet Center.
If itís warm Saturday, the spray from the North Branch Fire Department Water Fight with neighboring fire departments will feel good, at any rate, it will be a lot of fun to watch.
Good food is always on hand during this summer festival, donít miss the Lions roasted sweet corn stand or the Masonís Pancake Breakfast Sunday and the North Branch American Legion will serve up a free appreciation lunch on Saturday. The carnival in Central Park will also offer tempting sticky, gooey, yummy treats. A celebration like this is a tastebudís delight.
Thereíll be exciting activities every day of this 76th annual event.
Come to North Branch and have a good time. Bring the kids, bring Grandma, bring the neighbors.
