Many thanks to the nice young people living in our community
To the editor:
On the afternoon of June 11, 2001 our family was reminded of how much good there is in the youth of our community. At about 4:30 p.m. straightline winds whipped through our small, wooded lot. After the storm passed we walked out of our front door to discover our yard, driveway and two vehicles covered by trees and branches. As we stood in awe of the sight with our two small children in our arms we felt panic and fear well up in us. We had no idea how we were ever going to be able to clear a path to the road or uncover our vehicles.
Two friends happened to be out driving around and stopped by to see how we were. Upon seeing the damage and our stunned reaction, they offered to drive into town to pick up a few items for us. They returned with their three daughters and five members of their oldest daughterís youth group. In a matter of two hours these kids helped clean up the debris of six downed trees and a yard full of leaves and branches. Those incredible teenagers will never know how many burdens they lifted with each branch they hauled. Ralph Waldo Emerson said that ìto know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived, that is to have succeeded.î
Each of the kids, friends and family that were here have definitely succeeded in life. We give our appreciation to Tim, Holly Bonnie, Cory, Abby, Cody, Rob, Justin O., Justin M., and Katie. Also thank you to the rest of our friends and family who stopped by to help and offer support. Thank you so very much. God Bless.
