Youth Corner: Viking pride on the rise
By Brian Meskimen
School or Viking pride, as it is called, has always been something that some students take pride in at North Branch High School. However with both the girlís basketball team winning second place in their class at the state tournament and now the boyís team going into the state tournament, Viking pride is at an all time high. At times like this it is more than just sports, it is a sense of togetherness.
Most of the time throughout the school year there is no real sense of unity in NBHS, but when things like this come around everything changes. In the past few weeks everyone has come together to support our school and the basketball teams. The support for the girlís at the state tournament this past Saturday was overwhelming, it seems like almost everyone was supporting them in some way, whether they were wearing Vikings apparel, going to the game, or just watching the game on television.
In retrospect it is disappointing that it takes something like the basketball teams going to the state tournament to bring the students of NBHS together. Hopefully these past few weeks will help to continue this sense of unity in the future or maybe just to help us from all drifting apart.
