Municipal liquor store fails compliance check in Stacy
By Jason Sileo
The Stacy City Council discussed details of an alcohol compliance check failure at the cityís municipal liquor store last Tuesday night, March 13.
Stacy Mayor Kathi Lawrence said the store had been subject to a ěsting operationî and that the city had yet to learn what repercussions the state or county may have in store for it.
A second, privately owned establishment also apparently failed the compliance check... in addition to about 16 other outlets in the county.
ěA mistake was made,î Lawrence said. She said the cityís attitude toward the non-compliance was, ěLetís just make sure it doesnít happen again.î
Lawrence said she thought Chisago County law enforcement officials meant to work with the city in a constructive capacity, though fines may well be levied in the end.
The city council tabled the issue in order for City Attorney Peter Grundhoefer to have a closer look at the situation prior to the councilís April meeting.
The council also considered the hiring of a second maintenance person to assist City Head of Maintenance Tom Archibald.
The council accepted the resignation of Chris Johnson from the planning commission as Johnson is apparently moving from the area and would not be able to continue the city service.
Mayor Lawrence said letters of inquiry are being accepted for Johnsonís replacement and that the most qualified candidate would likely be appointed to the planning commission at the councilís May meeting.
The council will also be discussing rate hikes for those seeking conditional use or variance permits in the city.
