Grassroots Government
By MaryHelen Swanson
March 13 will be the date for area residents to see government in progress at the most basic level - township.
Itís your chance to have a voice where you can really be heard.
To participate in this grassroot adventure, vote during the day on new supervisors/treasurers, and, in the case of Nessel Township, make some important decisions regarding the election process and if you want your tax dollars spent on a new garage/shop building. Then attend your township meeting, learn what the budget will be for the coming year and discuss township issues with your neighbors.
The election hours vary, some begin in the morning, some at noon, and others early in the afternoon - all run until 8 p.m. at which time most townships will conduct their annual meetings. (See the Feb. 28 Post Review legal section for details on the elections)
If you choose to participate in your township elections, the following are your choices:
Amador - one supervisor is to be chosen but no one filed, incumbent Dana Johnson is seeking reelection as treasurer;
Fish Lake - four candidates for supervisor: Bob Cupit, Elvin Norling, Mark Crabtree and Norman Reinhart; for treasurer - Sharon McAndrew;
Lent - supervisor - Lyle Johnson (I), Robert Miklya and Andrene Pfannenstein; Darla Schroeder (I) for treasurer;
Nessel - Jerry Beise (I) and Jim Martin for supervisor; Ron Hauglie (I) for treasurer;
North Branch - Robert Schmidt (I) for supervisor and Dale Nordaune (I) for treasurer;
Oxford - Darren Lemmeran and Stephen Forner for supervisor; Peggy Nelson (I) for treasurer;
Rushseba - John Moulton (I) supervisor, Rodney Swanson (I) treasurer;
