Bruceís Foods up and running in new 21,000 square foot facility
By Jason Sileo
A brand new Bruceís Foods store is up and running in Wyoming, replacing an outdated and undersized facility which had been in place since 1940.
Store owner Bruce Selvig said construction of the new facility was mandated by a lack of size at the original Wyoming Foods building.
That 7,000 square foot structure has been replaced by the new 21,000 square foot store ó construction began in November and was completed in about six months; the store opened for business May 2 and will host a grand opening in mid-June.
Prior to purchasing Wayneís IGA (which he subsequently named ëWyoming Foodsí), Selvig owned and operated Champlin Foods in Champlin. Selvig bought that business in 1981 but was forced to close the store down in 1997 due to an area highway expansion project which steamrolled right across the property.
Selvig said prosperity and growth in Wyoming is promising and that he simply wasnít able to provide the selection he desired due to a lack of space at the former store.
The new store is carpeted throughout and offers new customer service, deli and movie rental areas in addition to all the standard grocery store conveniences.
The additional space allows the store to offer ìmore products at better prices,î Selvig said. He said store prices have remained stable or have gone down as compared to the same items he stocked at Wyoming Foods.
He said he hopes the new store offers greater convenience and satisfies all the grocery needs of Wyoming shoppers.
ìPeople are very excited in the town of Wyoming,î Selvig said. ìThey say itís about time. People donít like to leave town (to grocery shop) if they donít have to.î
Selvig plans to maintain a small-town atmosphere in the store; it is one of the his top priorities.
ìThatís what made our business successful, and weíre not going to change that,î he said. ìWeíre service oriented. Everythingís for the customer.î
The original Wyoming Foods store will play host to an equipment and fixtures auction May 23, then the structure will be razed and the site graded and paved to offer a 105-stall parking lot to serve the new facility.
Selvig said he hopes that project will be completed by June 1.
