By Danielle Strenke
There are many things in life that money canít buy. A warm hug, a loving smile, being tucked into bed at night. The one person who can may you feel safe and secure, no matter how old you get, is Mom.
As Motherís Day is celebrated this Sunday, children are busy preparing gifts to show how special their moms are to them. At Annette Schellbachís Preschool in Rush City, the kids were working hard on special gifts for mom this week, and talking about what they think makes their mom the very best.
Chelsey Mell, age 6, said she liked it best when her mom took her to Chuckie Cheese, but also added, ìCamp Snoopy too, that was even more fun. And she takes care of me when Iím sick.î
Linzy Potter, age 6, liked going to Camp Snoopy with her mom, too. ìShe rides on the rides with me,î she said. She also thinks her mom is a really good cook. ìEspecially when she makes me macaroni and cheese,î Linzy said. ìAnd hotdogs,î Chelsey added about her momís cuisine.
Joey Broding, age 4 (almost 5 next week), said he likes spending time with his mom, who calls him ìJoey Bear.î Sharon Sowman, who works at the preschool, said she knows that Joey likes snuggling on the couch and watching movies with his mom.
Derek Bowman, when asked how old he is says 40 lbs. (and quickly fills in ì40 and 4 years old), says his mom makes good pancakes. What is his favorite thing about his mom? ìI like hugging her,î Derek said. ìShe tucks me in bed with a big hugñ and a big kiss.î
Justine Hanson, age 5, lost her mom two years ago. But she has plenty of people to give her gifts to on Motherís Day. Her grandma is a special person in her life. ìI like it when she makes me breakfast in the morningñ pancakes and eggs and toast,î Justine said. ìAnd I like it when she plays with me because she has games.î Justine also wanted to talk about her dad. ìI like it when he gives me candy,î Justine said.
Daniel Myers, age 5, said he likes it when his mom reads his favorite Lion King book to him. ìAnd after school, if I donít have timeouts, she gives me a treat or tic-tacs,î Daniel said.
Randi Jo Armstrong, age 5, likes it when her mom makes her spaghetti and corn. ìOnce we went to Chuckie Cheese too,î Randi said. ìAnd sheís pretty and nice,î she said about her mom.
Kiawna Forcier, age 4 (and a half), said the best thing about her mom is that she makes her lunch. ìFrench fries and chicken nuggetsñ and cake for my birthday,î Kiawna said. ìShe gives me Barbie dolls for Christmas, and I help make supper. And once she let me and my sister, Kayla, go grocery shoppingñ we bought fruit roll-ups.î
Raven Keehbler, age 5, had a lot of nice things to say about mom. ìShe lets me eat candy and drink pop, and she bought me a new Barbie to go with my other Barbies because I didnít have that one.î She couldnít decide what one thing she likes to do best with her mom. ìI like to do laundry and go to the store with her, and watch movies with my mom. And she cleans my hampstersí house, but she doesnít play with them.î
Matthew Haglund, age 5, likes it best when he eats rice and eggs with his mom. ìI like to plant flowers with her, and I like to ride my truck.î And why does Matthew have the best mom in the whole world? ìBecause I think sheís good.î
