Loyalty Day winners

On May 1st, Loyalty Day (the day set by Congressional Act in 1958 to be the day that American citizens publically reaffirm their complete loyalty to America) the North Branch VFW Auxiliary to Post #6424 visited the North Branch schools to reward participating students for their efforts in a spring Loyalty Day contest.

The meaning of the day was discussed with the students. Main Street Schools students from two full classrooms and one student from a third 4th-grade classroom were recognized by receiving Pledge of Allegiance pencils and Loyalty Day brochures. Monetary prizes were given with first place to Megan Sass for her Loyalty Day Parade drawing. Second place went to Allison Fairbanks and third place to Kelsey Duval for their drawings of a Fourth of July parade.

Honorable mention went to Chelse Wahlquist, Jake Back, Jeremiah Olson, Kayla Obitz and Amanda Krohn.

Mrs. Gooleyís first-grade class at the Primary School entered drawings of a patriotic citizen. First place was won by Chantelle Lewandowski, second place Katie Balzer and third place tied: Greta Lindberg and Jacob Cleveland. Cole Lee was given honorable mention. All participants were recognized by being given a certificate for knowing the Pledge of Allegiance which they recited for the visitors.
