Planning commission voices concerns for
better communication
By Danielle Strenke
ìI donít know how to put it except that theyíre upset,î Harris Council member and planning commission member Wayne Buisman told the council Monday night.
There are several reasons, Buisman explained, but they all stem from the planning commission wanting to be more informed by the city.
ìThey want the packet information for their upcoming meetings sooner, so they have time to review property in question, and other requests,î Buisman said. ìAnd they want updates on any permits being issued, and to have people have all their paperwork filled out before being on the agenda.î
The council agreed that the planning commission needs to be up to date with all issues relevant to the commission.
ìWhy do they want updates on the permitsñ I can see getting a read-out of who has applied for a permit, but do they need to know the status?î asked council member Lyle Holmstrom.
Buisman told him the commission isnít requesting updates, but simply a list of any persons who have applied for permits, and a description of what the permits are for.
ìSo they just want to know what permits have been issuedñthey just want to be informed,î Holmstrom said.
Mayor Richard Hanson said he and the city clerk would work on improving these communication issues between the city and planning commission.
Also at its meeting, the council officially approved the hiring of a new treasurer for Harris. Carol Murray joins the city in a part-time capacity, working no more than 20 hours a week in the position.
US Bank has approached the city in an interest to sell a parcel of land in the southeastern corner of Harris to the city. The land is adjacent to the cityís lagoon.
The council brought up issues such as property tax amounts on the land, and whether it was feasible for possible lagoon expansion. A decision was tabled until more information is available.
