Homecoming a success at NBHS
By Brian Meskimen
Last week students at North Branch High School celebrated their annual homecoming. The week was full of events and activities. The festivities started out with the homecoming parade on Monday, where the four classes of NBHS and other student organizations showed off their floats and school pride. That same night the homecoming king and queen, Andy Fisk and Erin Shodahl were crowned at the NBHS auditorium.
Throughout the entire week students at NBHS took part in the annual penny wars competition, where each class and the staff tried to get the most pennies in their jar. The sophomores were the official winners of the competition, but together the school raised more than $1,300 for the Red Cross.Ý Each day the students also participated in spirit week where students showed their school pride by dressing up for the various days, which included ìGet Up and Go Dayî and ìRock Star Day.î
Friday was the big day at NBHS.Ý Besides the football game, which the Vikings won against the Sauk Rapids Storm, there was a locker bay decoration competition and a pep-fest. The seniors won the locker bay decoration competition and dominated the pep-fest activities.ÝThe pepfest included a tug-of-war, a screaming contest and a class contest, where two students from each class had to do things such as chugging a bottle of Mountain Dew and blowing up and popping a balloon ìany way they could.î
With all the horrible events that have happened recently it was a good time for students to try and not necessarily forget about the tragedy, but put it aside for a while to get back to some normal activities.Ý To sum up the feelings of the students at NBHS this past week, ìGod bless America and go Vikings!î
