Suspicious fire in Rush City trailer park Saturday
No one was injured in a fire on D Lane at the trailer park in Rush City at approximately 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1.
Apparently the fire was started in a mattress outside the trailer occupied by Deanna Alcock and Scott Shaw and their children.
Rush City Fire Chief Bob Carlson noted that the fire was suspicious in nature and ordered a call to the State Fire Marshall.
Neighbors had attempted to put out the fire with garden hoses.
One report indicated that two men in the neighborhood entered the house to get the children out, while the Sheriffís report notes that it was Deputy Jason Foster who entered the trailer to evacuate the occupants.
A cat was also rescued.
Deputy Mary McCarthy reported a conversation with trailer court manager Randy Benolken who said he caught a child he believed to be from the residence on the prior evening placing a smoke bomb in the window ledge of a brand new trailer near by.
The Rush City Fire Department was called to extinguish the fire. The Fire Marshall is continuing the investigation.
