Thelma S. Peterson

Thelma S. Peterson passed away on April 5, 2002 at the Grandview Christian Home in Cambridge, Minn, at the age of 81.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 9, for Thelma S. Peterson at the Stanchfield Baptist Church. Rev. Dale Cope officiated with assistance from Pastor Robert Grover and Chaplain Paul Reynolds.

Music was provided by organist Claudia Hardy and vocalist Lawrence Olson singing ìChildren of the Heavenly Fatherî in Swedish. Honorary pallbearers were Sam VanderHelm, Vernon Christensen, Lawrence Olson, Kenneth Peterson, John Carlson and Wallace Bismark.

Interment was in the Stanchfield Baptist Church Cemetery.

Thelma Sophie Peterson was born on August 26, 1920 to S. Robert and Ellen Marie Swensen in Duluth, Minn. She grew up in Duluth and graduated from Duluth Central High School.

She then attended Bethel College in St. Paul.
Thelma married Gerald Peterson on July 17, 1943 at the Bethel Baptist Church in Duluth, and they made their home on a farm in Elk River, MN. In 1945 they moved to their farm in Stanchfield, where they lived until 1970.

Thelma worked for the Cambridge State Hospital from 1960 until her retirement in 1982. In 1984 Gerald retired and they spent the next 14 years in Mesa, AZ. In November 1998 they moved back to Cambridge where they have since lived.

She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing and cooking. She was a wonderful listener and encourager to her children and grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents and two sons Michael and Kevin.

Thelma is survived by her husband Gerald of Cambridge; two daughters Priscilla Ondracek and husband John of Elk River, Jacquelyn Christenson and husband Warren of Shoreview, MN; four granddaughters Rhonda Virden and husband Dale of Zimmerman, Amory MacDonald and husband Donn of Ispwitch, MA, Quelyn Gulley and husband Barry of Richmond, IN and Penni Frank and husband Nick of Arden Hills, MN; three great-grandchildren; 2 sisters Ruby Lindblom and husband Wesley of San Diego, CA, Edith Hanson and husband Maynard of Norfolk, Nebraska; one brother Robert Swenson and wife Dorothy of Bothel, WA; other relatives and friends.

Arrangements by Rock Manke Burial and Cremation Service of Braham.
