Softball opens seasonThe Rush City softball team opened the spring season with a home game against Ogilvie Monday. The Tigers strong defense was barely overcome by the Lion offense. Ogilvie won the game 5-4. Rush City pitcher Page Rieland, a junior, opened the game with a bang, taking the teamís ìthree up, three downî mentality to heart. Rieland handed out six strike-outs, two walks and two hits. Amanda Greene brought in the first run of the game after a confusing at-bat by Megan OíShea during which the umpire did not know after two different pitches if she had been hit by the ball. Crystal Grimes brought in a run in the second and Jess Prettner and Brooke Larson also scored in the third. The top of the third brought the Tigers to a 4-0 lead against the Lions, but that soon changed. While Rush City finished the game without scoring again after the top of the third, offensive effort was outstanding as strike outs were limited and the bats made contact with the ball. Ogilvie racked up five runs from the bottom of the third through the end of the game. Next week, the Tigers hope to shut down Hinkley-Finlayson when the Jaguars visit. ©ECM Post Review |
