Goals adopted... To keep quality of life in NB
By Barbara Brown The North Branch City Council adopted an official city mission statement and nine short- and long-term goals for the coming years during its meeting Monday night. ěTo be recognized as a leader in local government by providing excellent service to its citizens and possessing a quality work force. To encompass elected officials that carry out the duties of office by respecting citizens, maintaining fiscal responsibility, demonstrating accountability and fairly and equitably allocating resourcesî is the cityís new mission statement. The new vision statement for North Branch is: ěTo remain as a municipality that offers a high quality of life that is enhanced by thoughtfully planned and designed development, an integrated multi-mode transportation network, vigorous businesses, job growth and preservation of treasured natural resources.î The council expects the staff and elected officials to make new schools, a high end business park, affordable housing, pleasant living atmosphere, community center, high-paying business establishment, revitalized downtown area, slower residential growth and improvement on the I-35 bridge top priorities for the coming years. The goals will be reassessed and evaluated yearly. Also at the meeting, the council agreed to allow the architecture firm Buetow and Assoc., of St. Paul, to expand the design of the planned new fire station to include a fifth apparatus bay for a fixed fee of $8,000. The council also announced polling places for the city for the coming fall elections. Residents south of Highway 95 will use the Chisago County Senior Center and those who live north of Highway 95 will use City Hall. The councilís May 27 meeting was rescheduled to May 28 because of the Memorial Day holiday.
