Tigerama ends with several place finishes for the Tigers
The Rush City boys track team hosted eight other area teams at the boys Tigerama track meet April 18. After early month snowfall and rain, the track cleared enough during the week to allow the annual track event to take place last Thursday. The Tiger boys team took seventh in the overall competition. St. Croix Lutheran took first place, followed by Pine City in second and Hinckley-Finlayson rounded out the top three. Braham snagged the fourth place spot, while East Central took fifth and Moose Lake - Willow River landed sixth. Barnum and Ogilvie were eighth and ninth respectively. Top placing scorer for the Tigers was senior Jose Figueroa who pulled down a third place finish in the 100 meter dash. Figueroa also placed third in the long jump event and fifth in high jump. Figueroa entered the Tigerama after coming off a personal record-setting long jump during an April 15 meet at Hinckley. Figueroa landed 19 feet, seven inches from the jump line. During the April 15 meet, he also tied his personal high jump record with a 5 foot, 10 inch pounce. Other individual recognition in the Tigerama went out to junior Brett Dreissig who secured sixth in the high hurdles, sophomore Dustin Hecht, who was fifth in the 1600 meter run, followed by seventh-grader Josh Dahl who finished sixth in the 1600. Robert Lind squeezed out a sixth place spot in the 400 meter dash. Relay events were consistent for the Tigers in the Tigerama. The Rush City four-by-800 meter team landed fifth. The team featured freshman Chad Karlsson, eighth-grader Noah Rychard, Dahl and Lind. The four-by-100 meter team also finished the event in fifth place. That team was made of eighth-grader Korey Sybrant, freshman Dan Gamache, sophomore Zack Becker and Figueroa. The four-by-400 meter relay team finished in sixth place and featured Lind, Karlsson, Gamache and Becker. Other highlights of the April 15 Hinckley meet when the team finished sixth behind Hinckley, Braham, Aitkin, East Central and Ogilvie: ï The team took fifth in the 3200 relay, fourth in the long jump relay, sixth in shot put relay and third in hurdle relay. ï Third in 1600 meter relay, fourth in high jump relay and 400 meter relay, fifth in 800 sprint relay and weight person relay and sixth in discus relay and 1600 sprint medley. ìIt was good to get outside and compete and see what type of athletes we have,î said head coach Mike Vaughn. ìWe are a young team and we are competing with the larger teams quite well.î The boys track team next faces Princeton when they travel April 25 for a 4:30 p.m. meet.
