Red Cross blood drive surpasses all expectations in Rush City
To the editor: WOW! What a little cooperation can accomplish! When the Red Cross Bloodmobile arrived at the elementary school in Rush City, Tuesday, July 30, the verdict was - we canít set up because of the extreme heat. To cancel the drive at 1 p.m. after the donors were planning to come and the food was prepared was a difficult task. A telephone call to Sacred Heart Catholic Church solved the problem and they graciously consented to let the Bloodmobile be set up in their air-conditioned basement. The blood donors were so very patient with the late start and a little inconvenience. The successful collection of 140 pints, 20 pints over our goal was made possible with the help of many dedicated volunteers. A big thank you to the following: the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Lionís Club, the Rush City Womenís Club, the women of First Lutheran Church, Bumper to Bumper, Angie and Bob Booth, Coldwell Banker, First State Bank, all of the callers and the volunteers who worked at the Bloodmobile. Of course, the most important thank you goes to the 166 donors who came in to volunteer their blood: Those who came for the first time were Betty Witte, Blaine Walker, Larry Steenes, Mark Layton, Deb Hoppe, and Mary Stenger. One-gallon pins were given to Angela Scofield, John Jilek, and Dean Kirchberg. Two-gallon pins were received by Jodi Ellsworth, Sharilyn Schlagel, Donna Peters, and John Hischer. A three-gallon pin was received by Allan Gustafson, a four-gallon pin given to Dean Goebel and Glen Bergin received a nine-gallon pin. Other donors were: Lynda Wing, Ruby Hokanson, Linda Parenteau, Jan Hahn, Rick Hurley, Richard Hansen, Darrell Borgstrom, Frank Mitchell, Fred Meissner, Chris Anderson, Joanne Ploetz, Jennifer Pearson, Mary Petschl, Susan Turner, Earl Johnson, Dorothy Carlson, Arnold Johnson, Charlotte Kennen, Don Kennen, Frank Lind, Sue Danson, Jim Ertz, Cindy Koepp, Jope Turk, Florence Swanson, Jeany Stettler, Jack Stettler, Patty Olson, Lynda Behrendt, Paula Bengtson, Terrie Schoeberl, Nancy Ovick, Kim Erdman, Rita Youngbauer, Richard Mihm, Jean Steltz, Lyle Stelz, Frank Winges, Elena Wiss, Lowell Klose, Bev Mollberg, Connie Sederberg, Randy Weidendorf, Tim Morris, Herman Solle, Nancy Moulton, Kathy Olson, Joan Hischer, John Ploetz, Mary Carlson, Kathy McDonald, Caryl Larson, Doug Branzovsky, Shawna Werner, Brenda Taylor, Randy Hansen, Thomas A.
