Edwin L. Freeberg
Edwin L. ìEdî Freeberg, age 94, of Wyoming, Minn. died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002 at Birchwood Health Care Center in Forest Lake, Minn. Funeral services for Ed were held Tuesday, Aug. 6, at First Lutheran Church of Harris with Reverend Michael Likens officiating. Soloists were Cameron Schroeder and Anita Ryberg; the organist was Carolyn Holmstrom. The interment took place in Oak Grove Cemetery near Harris with grandsons Michael Thompson, Steve Freeberg, Bob Freeberg, Jim Freeberg, Brian Freeberg and Mark Dykes acting as casket bearers. Honorary pallbearers were nephews Lawrence Peterson, Clarence Peterson, Willard ìBudî Sybrant, Donald Sybrant, Lawrence Freeborg, William ìBillî Freeborg, and Virgil Carlson. Ed was born Nov. 24, 1907 in St. Paul, the son of Claus and Anna (Larson) Freeborg. After his mother died in 1910, Ed and his brother Vern were brought up by their grandparents, Andrew and Augusta Larson of Rush City. He attended Rolf School, a one-room schoolhouse outside Rush City. On Dec. 12, 1931, Ed was united in marriage to the former Esther Peterson of Harris. Together they raised four children, with many of those years spent in the home they purchased outside Harris. Ed farmed for many years and also worked at various other jobs, including at Iva and Jack Moldís turkey farm in Harris and as a parts finisher at FMC Corporation in Minneapolis. In 1966, Ed and Esther moved to Wyoming, Minn. where they built a home surrounded by gardens and trees. After ìretiringî from FMC at age 65, Ed continued to work until he was in his 80ís (at Hallberg Marine and the State Rest Area outside Forest Lake). He also greatly enjoyed working in his gardens and being active. He was never one to enjoy sitting still when there was something to be done, places to go and people to see. Declining health caused Ed to become a resident of Birchwood Health Care Center in March 2002. Loving husband, father, and grandfather, his family was his whole life. We will miss his constant love and the twinkle in his eye. Ed is survived by his wife, Esther; son Merle and his wife Gertrude of Chisholm; son Duane and wife Charlotte of Moundsview; and daughter Judy Dykes of Minneapolis. Also surviving are 24 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by parents, Claus and Anna Freeborg; brother and sister-in-law, Vern and Helen Freeborg; daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Lyle Thompson; and son-in-law, Doug Dykes and great grandson Richard Oveson. Funeral arrangements were made by Olson Funeral Chapel of Rush City.
