Kids Quest offers variety in a school-aged child care program
By MaryHelen Swanson Special day activities are just one part of the Kidís Quest program, a day care program for school-aged children. Last week it was a day with the 4-H animals. Some days they take trips to places like Valley Fair or a Minnesota Twins baseball game. They have visited Underwater World and this week theyíre having a barbecue. Not all of the children participate in all of the activities, they have choices to make. The program runs through the summer, but also continues during the school year for the hours when children are not in school. The children start their days at ěhome baseî and move from activity to activity. The program is run out of the North Branch Middle School where the children can take advantage of gym facilities, the outdoor playground, and even the computer room. The children bring their lunches and have two snacks a day. The number of children in the program varies, from 25 to as many as 80. On the day of the 4-H animal activity there were about 55 children enrolled. Chris Houston, who brought his rabbits to the animal program, is also a full-time summer helper. A number of 14-16-year-olds are involved in the program. Some, like Houston, grew up in the Kidís Quest program and are now working as assistants.
