Concerned about the kindergarten results noted in August 14 article
To the editor: There is a need to set the record straight on the results of the kindergarten goals that appeared in the August 14 Post Review. The article understated the actual results by a considerable margin. In fact, the report that was delivered orally and in writing to those who attended the North Branch School Board meeting August 8 shows that by the end of the last school year 93 percent of all kindergartners were able to identify all upper case letters and 82 percent were able to identify all of the lower case letters. Those actual results are significant and positive. The kindergarten teachers as well as all the staff at the North Branch Main Street School are deeply concerned that the inaccuracies of the August 14 article have tarnished our reputation as an effective school. The kindergarten teachers are dedicated to and care deeply about each of their students. That dedication and care is evident in the actual test results. Please know that I am proud of our staff and the progress of our students. Sara Svir, principal Main Street School
