Ella M. (Stauffer) Humke

Ella M. (Stauffer) Humke, age 97 of Canton, PA., and formerly of Punxsutawney, died on Sat., July 13, 2002 at Memorial Hospital in Towanda, PA.
Mrs. Humke was born April 4, 1905, in Wright County, Iowa, a daughter of the late Fredrick L. and Edith (Grout) Stauffer.
In June 1923 she married Pastor Herman C. Humke, who preceded her in death October 8, 1982.
She attended school in Rush City, MN, and lived there until she was an adult.
From 1928 to 1958, Mrs. Humke and her husband lived in Punxsutawney, where Mr. Humke served as pastor of the local Presbyterian Church.
While there, she served as a volunteer for camp programs and church activities, as well as her husbandís secretary at the church.
In 1958, the couple moved to Canton, PA., where they served the former First Presbyterian Church until Mr. Humkeís retirement in 1963.
In Canton, Mrs. Humke was an active member of the Village Improvement Association and the Canton Literary Club.
In 1963, the couple moved to White Haven, PA., and then back to Canton in 1978.
Mrs. Humke had been a participant in the IHS Adult Sunday School class.
She enjoyed reading, crocheting, writing to friends, studying the Scriptures and Christian fellowship.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Joyce Castle and husband T. Roger of Canton; a sister, Marion Carlson of Rush City; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A private family viewing will be held at the Morse & Kleese Funeral Home in Canton, followed by interment in East Canton Cemetery.
A memorial service and celebration of Mrs. Humkeís life will be held at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2002, at the Canton Ecumenical Parish, with Pastor Dean Walrath and Mrs. Humkeís longtime friends the Rev. Allen Hulslander officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Canton Ecumenical Parish Memorial Fund.
