RCHS roof replacement slowed by 26 days of rain
By MaryHelen Swanson Matt Bryan of Inspec, Inc. a consulting engineering firm, told the Rush City School Board last week that he is pleased with the quality of construction and the process in place to replace the roof over the high school this summer. However, the timeline for completion has slipped a little bit due to 26 days of rain. The original completion date was Oct. 4, but Bryan expects it will now be around the first of November. The roof was replaced this summer due to leakage problems that have been occurring almost since the building was built and partly due to significant damage from a severe hail storm in the summer of 2001. The project is being paid for with insurance reimbursement and through the passage of a bond issue last spring. In other business at last weekís meeting, the board authorized the Rush City Lions to proceed with a project of building picnic shelters at the aquatic center. The Lions noticed that some people have been laying out blankets and having picnics near the pool and decided it would be nice to have some covered tables for those who wish to swim and eat. The board also accepted the resignations of Jessica Engelstad, communications/payroll employee and Tami Kost, high school media paraprofessional. Engelstadís position will be refilled, Superintendent Tim Eklund said. The board also reviewed and approved the 2002-2003 school calendar and annual report on curriculum, instruction and student performance. Copies of this calendar will be mailed to every resident in the school district. The calendars also contain vacation days, sports, extra-curricular, school board meetings and other district information.
