Abress seems like the ideal candidate for District 17B, he says
To the editor: I recently attended a ìMeet the Candidates Nightî where all the candidates running for election to local offices this fall had an opportunity to express their views as to why they deserve our votes. While most of the candidates were typical local businessmen and incumbents, one candidate stood out like a cornstalk in a soybean field. George McMahon is not a good choice for the people of District 17B as their representative. While he seems to have good credentials, I wonder how he can relate to the average citizen of Chisago County. He has lived here only a handful of years. When you ask him about his experience, he mentions working with the St. Paul Mayorís office and says he worked for Sen. Humphreyís office. While I have the utmost respect for Sen. Humphrey, he passed away nearly 25 years ago...what have you done since then George? His business involves banking and financial consulting and is located in St. Paul. I canít picture him relating to the typical Chisago County family struggling to make ends meet even though both husband and wife work full time. On the other hand, candidate Monica Abress seems like the ideal candidate. She has over 12 years of experience in local government on the Lent Township Board. Her fellow supervisors from 10 surrounding counties elected her to represent them at the Minnesota Association of Township Officers. While you may not agree with every decision she makes, she can explain any issue so that you can understand why she feels the way she does. I can say that, as I have been working with Monica for the past four years on the Lent Town Board. Lyle G. Johnson Stacy
