Check party endorsements, and ask the hard questions
To the editor: Chisago County Association of Township Officers (CCATO) had a ìMeet the Candidate Nightî at their July 31 meeting. In attendance were all the state candidates from 17B. The one that I found with interesting answers was the newcomer to the bunch. He spoke of his city council experience in St. Paul (under Mayor Latimer I believe) and that he ìis the best candidate.î Strange that someone with that much confidence in himself would need a party to run under. He went to the DFL endorsing convention with the full intent of running in the primary, he ìwasnít going to let an endorsing convention stop him.î So why did he go? When asked, ìDo you respect the decision of the elected delegates of the DFL party in the county or not?î His answer was that he doesnít agree with the platform but he has been a democrat for 45 years. Maybe someone needs a reality check. How can you be a member of a party for 45 years and not agree with the platform? The fact that we have an open seat may be a big piece of this puzzle seeing as he ìis the best candidateî according to him. Stop and think, if he ìis the best candidateî why didnít he run against Loren two years ago? So does Chisago County need someone who is endorsed by the Labor Council in St. Paul and not endorsed by the Chisago DFL representing us down at the Capitol? When you see that he is out trying to get the Republicans to cross over in the primary you have to wonder, is this another Norm Coleman or is the Republican Party now being run by the Labor Unions? Either way does it pass the smell test? Remember in September if he wonít respect the party he is running for why would he respect the voters. Throw the bums out in the primary. Check your party endorsements, ask the hard questions and donít take the weak answers. We have a great voting record in this county so letís keep it that way. DFL, GOP, IP and others come out and vote. Donald Waller Wyoming
