Almelund softball team takes second at stateThe Wild River Bar & Grill menís softball team competed in the Masters over-35 state tournament July 27 and July 28 in Staples, and came away with a second place trophy. The team opened the tournament with a 12-6 loss to Sauk Rapids. Wild River came back with a major rally and won their next five games to get back into the state championship game. The scores and opponents in the next five games were: 18-6 vs. Hewitt, 21-14 vs. Park Rapids, 21-9 vs. Cambridge, 24-3 vs. Brainerd and 15-14 vs. Sauk Rapids. The 15-14 victory over Sauk Rapids to put them in the state tournament was the high point of the tournament, as the Almelund team avenged their only loss in the tourney. The Wild River squad went on to lose 9-5 against Hoyt Chiropractic in the championship game, for second place in the state. The team brought home the state runner-up trophy for its tremendous efforts this season. ©ECM Post Review |
