Margaret, the daughter of Martin and Mary (Boyle) McGuire, was born July 11, 1911 in Rush City, Minn. The childhood home of Margaret and her sister, Evelyn, was located on the site that is currently occupied by the offices of Coldwell Banker in Rush City.
Margaret attended Rush City Schools, and following her graduation from Rush City High School, moved to St. Paul, Minnesota. While living there she was employed at the Hoover Company.
On Aug. 18, 1936, Margaret was united in marriage to Alfred Rumpel. They made their first home directly across from the old Rush City Hospital, now occupied by the Fairview Rush City Area Clinic. Later they moved into a newly built home located on land that Margaret had grown up on.
Alfred was the farmer and Margaret was the homemaker in the Rumpel family. In the 1950ís they began a business raising chickens, and when a passing tornado took down the broiler house they were forced to rebuild.
Margaret also worked at the Co-op Store and for Petersonís Meat Market in Rush City. In 1963 she opened Rush City Dry Goods, a business located in the Co-op Store building.
There was always something homemade to eat at Margaretís house if anyone stopped by. She liked to cook and bake and to entertain family and friends. For many years she belonged to a bridge club, and was also a member ìin good standingî of a poker club that was started as a ladies night out. She enjoyed traveling to Mexico during the worst part of the Minnesota winter months. In 1967, Alfred and Margaret built their retirement home on their land located west of Rush City near Interstate 35.
Following Alfredís death in 1979, Margaret continued to live in their home until failing health necessitated a move to Rush Oaks in Rush City. In July of 1998 she became a resident of the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Rush City. While living there she enjoyed playing Bingo, listening to the musical programs, and socializing with other residents and family members.
She is survived by her daughter, Evelyn Larson, of Rush City; son-in-law: Frank Strelow, of Rush City; two grandchildren: Mark (Donna Heaton) Strelow, and Kay (Richard) Lindstrom, all of Rush City; five great-grandchildren: Jennifer and Michael Strelow, Nicholas, Alexander, and Mitchell Lindstrom; nieces: Margaret Mary Ulrich-Warner, Shirley (Donald) Minke, Yvonne Swanson; nephew: Alton (Diana) Swanson; other relatives and friends.
