Tigers improve to 2-0

The Tigers girls basketball team is off to a 2-0 start after picking up its second win of the season against Aitkin at home last Friday.
Rush City had four girls score in double figures for the second game in a row in the 56-44 victory over the Gobblers.
Defense was a big factor in the win, causing 37 turnovers and bringing its season total to 80. The first quarter started slow for both teams, with the Tigers taking a 9-8 edge.
Rush City went on a tear in the second quarter, scoring 18 while Aitkin took only 9. The team took a 27-17 lead into halftime.
As in the season-opener against Rivers Christian Academy, the Tigers came out stronger in the third quarter, sinking 22 points. The squad got in a little trouble with turnovers in the fourth quarter, and was outscored 14-7, but held on to the 12-point margin for the victory.
ìWe played a very good game overall, but we need to cut down on the turnovers in order to improve as a team,î said head coach Stuart Lang.
Junior Mindy Scott led the team with 15 points, including three 3-pointers. She shot 60 percent for field goals.
Sophomore Holly Grimes had another strong game off the bench for the Tigers, totalling 13 points. She is shooting 52 percent in the first two games of the year. Junior Christine Moore continued to do well on both sides of the court, tallying 12 points, 8 assists, 6 steals and 7 rebounds.
Overall, the team shot 34 percent in 2-point attempts, and 35 percent at the free throw line.
The Tigers have conference games scheduled including Hinckely on Dec. 10 away, home against Onamia on Friday and away at Isle Dec. 17.
