Stacy approves 2002 pay claims
By Barbara Brown The Stacy City County approved pay claims from the city council members and mayor during the Dec. 10 meeting. Only one change was required before the council agreed on the payments. Mayor Kathi Lawrence will receive $870 for service during the six month period starting June 12. The mayor had asked for $905, but the council would not approve one $35 claim for a mayorís conference Lawrence attended in September. Lawrence and all the council members agreed earlier in the year that if any of them attended meetings outside Stacy at the cityís expense they would be required to give a brief written summary of what they learned at the meeting. Lawrence had not submitted a summary of the mayorís convention, saying her computer crashed and she was unable to retrieve the summary. Lawrence was paid $1,030 for the same time period last year, after her request for $1,600 was cut. Council member Katie Davidson will receive $680, council member Lee Schultz will receive $785, council member John Walz will get $940 and council member Barb Otterson will receive $960. Also at the meeting, the council announced that after hearings with Minnesota state officials in charge of determining unemployment benefits, former liquor store manager Sandy Boerner would not receive unemployment pay. Boerner resigned her post as manager of the liquor store and municipal bar just before Labor Day. Since then the cityís liquor committee and a hired consultant have found evidence of mismanagement of the municipal storeís finances and inventory. The council next will meet Jan. 6 to discuss a proposed lease agreement with Lent Township as part of joint powers negotiations for the new fire hall. The city and Lent then will meet Jan. 7 at Lent Town Hall for a joint powers meeting. The council also will have a work session meeting next Jan. 28 in place of its regular second meeting of the month. The meeting, scheduled for 6:30 p.m., will focus on the cityís engineering projects and outlook regarding extension of water and sewer, constructing a new water tower, upgrading the cityís sewer systems and other projects and questions for future growth in Stacy.
