Vikings fall by 10 to Tigers

In the first conference meet for both the Princeton Tigers and the North Branch Vikings, the Tigers defeated the Vikes by a narrow margin of 10 points overall.
The Viking gymnasts performed in front of a supportive crowd that nearly filled the stands.
ìThe team is always fired up to have meets in their own gym,î said coach Cheryl Becker.
Many of the Viking gymnasts placed in the meet, earning individual conference points on the road to all-conference honors.
Senior Nick Chouinard was third on vault, beam and bars and fourth in floor exercise.
Chouinard also was second place all-around for the night.
Allyssa Houle, 7th grade, was second on vault, floor beam and all-around. She also was fifth on bars.
The team suffered somewhat and had to do a little shuffling because some members were out with family vacations, injuries and illnesses.
Some members still will be missing over the holiday break when the team goes to the Chisago Lakes Invitational.
The overall team score for Thursday nightís meet was 106.7 to 96.2.
Vault:
Aileen Shanley: 7.4; Krystal Blesener: 7.2; Lisa Curwick: 7.7; Nick Chouinard: 7.85; Allyssa Houle: 7.9.
Balance beam:
Trisha Pizzuti: 3.4; Shanley: 3.4; Blesener: 4.8; Houle: 5.65.
Uneven bars:
Natalia LaHood: 3.3, Shanley: 3.95; C.J. Schloer: 3.2; Chouinard: 6.85; Houle: 6.0.
Floor exercise:
Blesener: 3.55; Shanley: 6.1; Pizzuti: 4.8; Chouinard: 7.1; Houle: 7.35.
All-around:
Shanley: 20.85; Chouinard: 27.45; Houle: 27.3.
North Branch vs. Fridley
The meet against Fridley on Dec. 12 had a lot of highlights despite the absence of three team members and Becker.
Becker and Pizzuti were both sick, Lisa Curwick was injured and Kelsey Lloyd had a prior committment.
Their absenses gave junior varity members the chance to step up and compete to earn points toward varsity letters.
ìThe girls enjoyed the pressure,î Becker said last week. ìMany personal best scores were placed in this meet.î
