Eugene Ronald Peterson
Eugene Ronald Peterson, age 62, of Hinckley, Minn., formerly of Columbia Heights, passed away on Dec. 18, 2002 at the Lakeside Medical Center in Pine City, Minn. Funeral services were held on Dec. 21 at the St. John Church in Stacy, Minn., with Rev. Ed Wheatley and Rev. Art Hansen officiating. Interment was in St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Weber, Minn. Memorials to Clover Community Church in Hinckley in lieu of flowers. Arrangements by Grandstrand Funeral Home in North Branch, Minn. Eugene was born on July 19, 1940 to Elmer and Emmeline (Stamm) Peterson in Oxford Township. Eugene served in the Navy from July 1957 until July 1961. Most of the time he served aboard the USS Mill DR 383 a destroyer escort, in the Atlantic Fleet, as a radioman second class. He was declared a National Hero by the Admiral. Eugene was employed by the Postal Service in 1961, as a carrier. He carried mail out of stations in northeast Minneapolis until becoming a maintenance mechanic in 1981. He retired in July of 1995. In September of 1999 Eugene and his wife Leslie moved to Hinckley, Minn. Eugene was preceded in death by parents and his first wife Janet and son Troy Allen and brother Reuben. He is survived by wife Leslie, daughter Annette and husband Mark Schwartz; four grandchildren Heather, Troy, Bryan and Greg; stepson Gregory Korte; two brothers Eldon of Whitefish, Mont. and Everett and his wife Sharon of North Branch, Minn.; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
