Sunday Night
MaryHelen Swanson, editor

This week, when we say Happy New Year, the word ìnewî will be the key element. There will be much that is new in the new year. Like new people coming into the political arena from township to state levels. Or new energy given to old problems as folks work to make sense of the stateís enormous deficits. Thereíll be new buildings going up, new plans being made for the growth of our area and new ideas as to how to deal with the old problems with which we have been frustrated.
People of all ages will have new plans for their own personal lives, resolutions, if you must, from changes in physical appearance to new ways to break old habits. We may be planning new looks for our homes or businesses, or new ways of saving or earning money to prepare for our future years.
Some of us might be excited about making new friends, visiting new places or working with new people. Others might be expecting new arrivals in their homes. Now thatís something new thatís worth getting excited about.
Whatís going to be new with you as we start the year 2003? Perhaps itís time to set some goals because goals help us to be invigorated in our pursuit of happiness. Even if we donít accomplish them all at the end of the year, at least we can have the satisfaction of knowing we tried.
The beauty of a new year is that we can pack away the old, with its annoying issues, incomplete projects and frustrating problems and start over with new ideas and new dreams.
So, hereís to the new year, 2003. May it be happy, prosperous and exciting for you and your families.
