Ways to learn of grandparent rights?

To the editor:
Are you considering seeking visitation rights of your grandchild or grandchildren? You need to know then that according to Minnesota Statue 257.002 there are four circumstances where grandparents can do so by the law with or without a lawyer. Unfortunately very few grandparents fall into any of these four circumstances.
Recently I found myself in such a situation where I needed counsel to have visitation to my granddaughter.
The first thing I did was contact East Central Legal Services. I was told I did not qualify to receive help from them. After several calls to different lawyers I was told for $75 I could have a 30- to 45-minute consultation. I made an appointment. While anticipating help, I received a nice informative letter from East Central Legal Services explaining to me the four circumstances.
I am thankful they took the time to do this. Had I gone to my lawyerís appointment, I would have been told this for a fee, but legally unable to seek visitation.
I hope this letter helps anyone who may find themselves in such a situation.
Thank you East Central Legal Services.
My thoughts and prayers go out to whomever may also be facing this kind of situation.
