Braham rolls over Tigers in tough game

By Barbara Brown

The Tigers boys basketball team got off to a rough start in the first half of the Feb. 8 home game against Braham.

While the first half was definitely rough, the audience saw a slight pick-up in the second half.
The Tigers lost 64-30 and were out-shot by Braham 62-42.

Brahamís quick-change defense picked up on many of the 13 Rush City turnovers and scored against the Tigers.

In the first quarter, Braham out-scored Rush City 17-1. The opponent followed up in the second period with an additional 16 to Rush Cityís 4.

At the half, with the tie at 33-5, the Tigers walked off the court obviously upset with themselves.
When the team returned after halftime, a new fire was lit under the Tigers and they went to score 12 to Brahamís 15 in the third quarter.

The Tigers held Braham close in the fourth quarter, scoring 13 to Brahamís 16, but the teamís clicking into the game was so late in coming that the Tiger efforts simply werenít enough.

ìIt was a game where Brahamís defense dominated from the opening tip,î said coach Gary Dreissig.

However, Dreissig was pleased to see the Tigers hold Brahamís Andy Grossbach to only seven points in the game.

ìThe problem was our turnovers,î Dreissig said. ìAnd their transition baskets made for many easy baskets.î

Two of those transition baskets were made on Braham break-aways after the ball was stolen twice in a row from the Tigerís Andrew Kaufmann.
For the Tigers, Tim Karnick made a nice showing with nine toward the team total.

Dreissig called Karnick the gameís ìbright spotî for coming off the bench to lead the team in scoring.

Karnick shot 50 percent on three-point attempts, draining one of two that he tried. Karnick shot 67 percent in two-point tries, making two of three.

Brett Dreissig followed closely with eight for the team. He tried for 10 two-pointers, and pulled down four.

Dreissig also grabbed eight rebounds in the game.

Dan Turner, who seems to still be nursing a sore knee, tried seven times for two-pointers and sank three to total six points for the team.

The team faced Ogilvie Feb. 12 in a home game and will travel to Maranatha on Feb. 14 and East Central on Feb. 15
