Field of strategic planning firms narrows to threeBy Danielle Strenke The strategic planning process continues at the East Central Solid Waste Commission, as the strategic planning committee narrows its search for a strategic planning firm. Executive Director Allen Bonini said the committee, comprised of himself, and commissioners George Larson of Isanti Co. and Alan Hancock of Pine Co., had reviewed a list of firms who specialize at strategic planning. ìWe quickly narrowed it to the top three,î he said. He did not name the firms, but said the committee would be interviewing those three firms Feb. 21. ìOnly the committee is needed at the meeting, but the rest of you are invited to attend as well,î Bonini said. ìAll youíll be doing is selecting one of the three and then weíll all sit down in an introductory meeting,î Dennis McNally of Kanabec County said. Bonini said once the firm was selected, they would most likely be meeting several times with the board, discussing what the board would like to achieve through the strategic planning process, and then also meeting with each of the five county boards. Larson said the commission has budgeted for up to $150,000 for the strategic planning process. Each of these three firms, he said, came in with bids in that range but under the budgeted amount. Bonini also reported on results of an inspection of the leachate tank at the Mora landfill. ìThe crew found several leaks, and their original recommendation is itís not worth repairing,î he said. In addition to several visible holes, the inspectors found much of the interior coating flaking off inside of the tank, which was installed in 1991. ìHow big is the tank?î Don Lindquist, alternate commissioner for Pine County, asked. Bonini said it was an 8,000-gallon steel tank. Preliminary costs to replace a tank that size were $25,000. ìOnce we get the final report we can look at our options,î Bonini said. The next meeting of the ECSWC will be Mon., March 11 at 9 a.m. at the Mora facility. ©ECM Post Review |
