Theft at veteransí graves even more despicable in wartime

A graveyard theft during the recent holidays has left a family hurting and in disbelief.

The Veterans Service Stars were taken off the graves of two North Branch veterans and the family is wondering what kind of person could commit such an insensitive act.

ěNot only did they disturb the resting place of a familyís love one,î they said, ěbut they committed a crime against the symbol and memory of all veterans.î

The Veterans Service Star is given to show gratitude for distinction, honor and selfless service to God and Country.
The family of Roger O. Johnson and Lloyd Johnson think it is incomprehensible that someone would do such a thing even as loved ones in the military are being sent around the world to to battle terrorism.

They ask if a crime like this would have happened after Pearl Harbor.

ěWhen those Service Stars were stolen,î said the family, ěmore was taken than just material objects. We can only hope that some day whoever did this will come to understand the cost of freedom, and regret what they have done.î

If anyone has any information about the missing Service Stars, please contact the North Branch Police.
